Rye IPA from Saranac Brewery

By Don

If you've never tried anything from Saranac, you really should.  They have a really nice selection of brews in their arsenal.

One thing that I really have to commend Saranac on is their variety packs.  They do a great job of offering a nice variety in their 12-packs.  It gives you a great opportunity to try different brews out and see what you like.  The last variety pack I picked up included Rye IPA.

The Saranac website says that this one is an IPA with a "wry twist."  Nice pun, but it's so true.

Rye IPA has a clear, golden appearance and has a nice, frothy head.

The rye malt helps to block out the signature bitterness of a typical IPA.  It has a much smoother taste and has more of a pilsner feel and taste.  The carbonation gives Rye IPA a nice "zing."

My wife doesn't like IPA's at all, but she took a few sips of Rye IPA and really enjoyed it.  It's a much easier beer to drink than most IPA's - especially for the casual beer drinker.

5.95% ABV on this one and the website suggests seafood, pizza and mexican food as good food pairings.

Do yourself a favor.  Check out Saranac and give Rye IPA a try.

Cheers!
