Maredsous Tripel from Duvel Brewery of Belgium

By Don

Bud really threw Rick and me for a loop at our recent beer sampling when he walked in with a pint bottle of Maredsous Tripel.  Hmmmmmmm.  Our interest was piqued.

It's really unfair to call this one a beer.  At 10% ABV, this is more in the wine category!

The Maredsous poured to a nice golden, amber color.  It has a frothy head that stuck around and stuck to the glass.

It has a pleasant, almost port-like aroma and the finish is nice as well.

Bud said that it was "Tripel-icious."  Rick sounded like he was writing for the J. Peterman catelog when he said, "I could envision drinking Maredsous sitting in my leather wingback chair by the fireside after shoveling snow."  And we all felt that it was "smooth" and it "warmed the innerds."

Tripel is a term used in the Low Countries (Netherlands & Belgium) to describe this strong, pale ale.

Good stuff from Belgium.  More of a dessert, sipping beer.  Don't drink it on an empty stomach, that's for sure!

Cheers!
