So, we had some people over to watch the Super Bowl. I had a display of beers available, but some of our guests brought some beer as well.
When I was cleaning up, I realized that there was a bottle of Dundee Kolsch-Style Ale left in the cooler. Of course, I'm always game to try a new brew and a free one? Even better! :-)
Dundee Brewing is part of the Genesee Brewing Company of Rochester, New York which was known as High Falls Brewing from 2000 to 2009. Then, in 2009, it was acquired (along with Labatt Brewing) by KPS Capital and became North American Breweries. Whew! Got all that straight?
Anyway, back in '94 Genesee started the Dundee line when they released J.W. Dundee's Honey Brown. It quickly became one of their most popular brews.
The Dundee line has grown and now even has a Kolsch-Style Ale. Kolsch Ale is a style of beer native to Cologne, Germany.
It's straw yellow in color. It has a nice frothy head that dissipated quickly, but left a thin layer at the top that stuck around.
It has a faint aroma. I detected some fruity hints. It has a sweet initial taste - again with detections of fruit. But has a little bitter kick at the end.
It's a crisp - almost bubbly - drink. It clocks in at 5.1% ABV and is just 10.5 IBUs.
This one won't compete with your food. It's a very drinkable ale. It would probably be better on a hot summer day.

Prost!
