Spiced IPA from Widmer Brothers Brewing

By Don

We're back!  Sorry it's been awhile.  We'll get caught up this summer.

So, on a recent trip to Wegmans, I wanted something different and I spotted Widmer Brothers Spiced IPA.

Widmer Brothers is based in Portland, Oregon.  It started in 1984 by brothers Kurt & Rob Widmer.

Their Spiced IPA is part of their Rotator Series.  According to their website, they collaborated with the "Quality Ale & Fermentation Fraternity" to put their take on the West Coast's favorite beer style.

Spiced IPA is brewed with malty Assam Black Tea, Ginger, Cinnamon, Clove, Star Anise, Black Pepper and Cardamom.  It's 7.0% ABV and clocks in at 70 on the IBU scale.  It's a limited release brew.

It pours to a gold yellow with a think layer of foam that stuck around.  As you would expect, the aroma is spicy!  You get a good fruity hop scent along with the cinnamon, tea, ginger and more.

It's crisp with a nice hop kick in the back of the throat.  I found it to be a very drinkable beer -- especially if you like a spicy, hoppy beer.

Cheers!
