Every once in awhile, we'll give a beer from one of the big boys a shot. I have to admit, we typically go into it thinking that we're going to be let down. Hop Hound Amber Wheat didn't break that streak. Hop Hound is part of Anheuser-Busch's Michelob series of beers.
The appearance is nice -- golden amber with a nice, frothy head. Some decent lacing on the glass. There aresome faint hints of citrus.
The biggest thing that had us puzzled on this one was that it's not very hoppy at all. In fact, according to the website, this one is only 25 on the IBU scale. Of course, if you're not used to hops, maybe a little goes a long way?
Hop Hound also has a caramel flavor which possibly neutralizes the hops. This is an unfiltered wheat beer with an amber color.
If you like Anheuser-Busch products and typically drink their ales or pilsners, this might be an option for you if you'd like to try something a little different. It doesn't have a hop kick that can be an aquired taste for some.
Cheers!
