Tetley's English Ale from the Carlsburg Group

By Don

We take our first trip "across the pond" for this one as we take a taste of Tetley's English Ale.  Tetley's was founded in 1822 in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England.

This beer was a gift - and a great gift it was!  We had our annual New Year's Eve party in our neighborhood and one of my neighbors walked in with two 4-packs of Tetley's!!!

I love beers with a nitrogen widget in the can.  It's such a great sound when you pop the top.  You may have had Boddington's before and had the same experience.

Part of the experience with Tetley's - like Boddington's - is pouring the beer into your glass (I used a pilsner).  It comes out of the can with a creamy appearance.  Then, like magic, you watch the creaminess separate from the ale and a nice frothy head appears at the top of your glass.

Tetley's has a nice fruity aroma.  It's mildly bitter, but it's not overwhelming.  Just like it says on the can, it is "creamy and smooth."  It almost feels as if it's coating the inside of your mouth.

There's some nice lacing in your glass.  This is an easy drinking ale.  A casual beer drinker would enjoy a Tetley's.

ABV on this one is just 3.6%.  I would advise drinking this one rather quickly.  With the head of foam that you get on this one after getting the initial "jolt" from the nitrogen widget, I think that as the head dissipates it will affect the experience with this one.  This is one that would be a nice treat every once in awhile.

So, as the old British saying goes, I'm not "looking a gift horse in the mouth."  I enjoyed my gift of Tetley's English Ale.

Cheers!
