Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale from Lazy Magnolia Brewing

By Rick

Remember the candy jingle that started  “Sometimes you feel like a nut….”?!

I was looking for something a bit different in my beer fridge and found a Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale by Lazy Magnolia Brewing Company.  It’s said to be the first beer in the world made with whole roasted pecans.  It’s also a Bronze Award winner in the Specialty Beer Category of the 2006 World Beer Cup.  Check out Mississippi’s first brewery’s website.

Southern Pecan (4.39% ABV) pours a beautiful caramel brown with light beige head.  Nice effervescence!  Its aroma is not overpowering, but I could pick up hints of malt and nuts.  Its taste isn’t overpowering either, but it was a nice change-of-pace from my usual choice of hoppy ales.  Nice clean and crisp finish too!

It only makes sense to pair this ABV brew with nuts or other salty snacks.  (I also would love to try it with a slice of pecan pie!)
“Sometimes you feel like a nut….”

Cheers!
