Oktoberfest from Summit Brewing Company

By Don

Another offering from my recent Oktoberfest "Mix Pack" was Oktoberfest from Summit Brewing Company.

Summit Brewing Company is celebrating their 25th Anniversary this year (2011).  They opened in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1986 as well as installing a brewhouse in Heimertingen, Germany.

Oktoberfest pours to a nice copper color with a foamy head that dissipated down to a minimal amount that stuck around until I finished.  Oktoberfest has great lacing on the glass too.

It's brewed in the German "Marzen" style.

It has a faint toffee or caramel aroma from the Caramel Malts that are used.

It has a nice crisp taste and a good hoppy finish.  It complimented my meal (pecan-encrusted tilapia with rutabaga mashed potatoes and broccoli).

It's 7.3% ABV and it's definitely more malty than hoppy.  It was a two time Grand Champion at the U.S. Beer Tasting Championships in 2002 and 2003.

Of course, it's only available in the Fall, so get it while it lasts!

Good stuff from Summit Brewing!

Cheers!
