BPA (Belgian Pale Ale) from Brewery Ommegang

By Rick

Niche beer. That's what I'd call Ommegang's Belgian Pale Ale. In today's beer-drinking circles: that's a pretty big niche! This Belgian-style brewery has produced some unique beers for the American market. But now "hop-heads" can enjoy a classic ale from this Cooperstown, NY brewery. (The Brewery Ommegang www.ommegang.com is located just a few miles from The Baseball HOF. It makes for a great vacation!)

Being a "hop-head", I always look for a different pale ale at whatever watering hole I frequent. I suppose millions of other hop-heads do the same, so Brewery Ommegang now has their own entry into "the bitters" category. Although the name denotes a Belgian heritage, this brew's characteristics are definitely "British"! (And I say that in the most complementary of ways! It's a "new classic"!)

FWIW: I was fortunate to witness the bottling of one of the newest offerings from the Brewery Ommegang during a 2010 summer tour/sampling. The workers were excited to be entering that pale ale niche!

Their BPA has a nice golden amber color with a frothy head. You'll smell those wonderful sweet floral and citrus aromas! It has a great effervescent mouthfeel and you'll be able to enjoy this 6.2%APV responsibly. It's tasty enough to drink by itself- or pair it with any of your favorite foods. And most certainly: have one while you're watching our national pastime!

Cheers!
