We continue on with the Beers of Winter from my recent "Mix Pack." This one comes to us from Boston, Mass. No, it's not a Sam Adams. It's Winter Warmer from Harpoon Brewery.
Harpoon Brewery was started in 1986 by college friends Dan & Rich. Hey, Don & Rick ... Dan & Rich. Good names, good beer!
Winter Warmer is a Spiced Ale available from November to January. It's 5.9% ABV and you can find out more on the Harpoon website.
Winter Warmer pours to an Auburn Brown color - almost Maple Syrup-like. It has a minimal head that dissipated quickly, but did have some decent lacing on the glass.
You definitely get the kick of spices when you drink this one. It gives you a warming feeling as it's going down. Cinnamon and nutmeg are evident.
You can take some good gulps of Winter Warmer. It's not necessarily a "sipping beer." Because of the Cinnamon and nutmeg, I would say this would be a good one to have with desserts during the holidays. Maybe with pumpkin pie???
Cheers!
